One of the best ways to cultivate a positive attitude is to end each day on a positive note. To help you, I have listed 7 ways to put yourself in a good mood before you go to sleep:
1. Tell yourself what you are grateful for today
A great friend of mine once told me that before she goes to sleep, she recalls all the things she was grateful for that day. This is such a good skill to practice! Too often we are focused on the things that go bad, that we simply forget to remember the good that happens to us. What are you grateful for today? For inspiration, on Tiny Buddha, you can find 25 awesome things we take for granted most days.
2. Refrain from social media
Once we lay in our bed, it’s really easy to waste a few hours scrolling on social media platforms. What often happens is that we end up feeling bad, seeing all the awesome things other people do or have. This is not a good way to end your day; in fact, seeing such posts can ruin a perfectly good day for no reason. Don’t provide your brain with extra things to overthink about. Simply put your phone down when you go to bed and refrain from social media!
3. Read a positive message
Of course, it is not completely forbidden to use your phone right before sleeping. I actually recommend you to visit a positive blog or website (such as Goalcast, Upworthy or Femme Friendly 😉 ) and read a positive message at the end of each day. The extra positivity boost will put you in a good mood before falling asleep.
4. Tidy your room
Personally, I love going to bed in a tidy room. Whenever my room’s messy, my head’s messy; however, when my room is clean, I immediately feel more organized in my head as well. It sure doesn’t have to be completely spotless, but just make sure that your room is not a tiny Apocalypse when you go sleep. 😉
5. Meditate
Meditation is also a great way to end your day, as it calms you down. For those who are not familiar with meditation, on Stop and Breathe you can find an easy 10 step beginner’s guide. My advise: Just breathe and try to think about nothing. 😉
6. Set a goal for the next day
Another good way to end you day is by setting a goal for tomorrow. What do you want to achieve tomorrow? It doesn’t have to be an impressive goal, such as climbing the Mount Everest – a simple errand will do! As long as you put yourself to something, you are preparing yourself to be better tomorrow.
7. Go to bed on time
An important point that should not be forgotten is the benefit of going to bed on time. It seems as if there’s never enough time in a day, but trust me, whatever you feel like doing at 02:00 can most likely wait until tomorrow. Personally, I try not to exceed 23:59, but everyone has their own limit.
I hope these tips will help you! Remember, practice makes perfect. If you have any other tips that I didn’t mention, feel free to comment them below! 🙂
